The Bar heatedly opposed the recall proposal as an improper interference in the realm of judicial authority, but it also had support within legal quarters (including the Dean of Penn Law School, a vocal proponent).Advocates for the proposal argued that in a democracy a small group of judges should not be able to override the judgment of majority of the people on matters of social value or public policy.
