  It seems plainly obvious that it cannot be that the Confrontation Clause is violated only when the in-court witness purports to be repeating the statement verbatim; if that were true, the Clause would be rendered a virtual nullity with respect to unrecorded oral statements, because the in-court witness would not usually remember the statement verbatim anyway.
