We take it, then, that, notwithstanding her hyperbole, Kagan’s real point (since if she were being literal she would be saying virtually nothing) is that it can be problematic if changes in the membership of the Court produce major changes in important (albeit limited) areas of the law, through the outright overruling of past decisions or marked doctrinal shifts away from them.
