Certainly one factor in causing the Great Recession we are still coming out of was the decision to go to war in Afghanistan and Iraq--wars likely to be long and costly in terms of technical equipment as well as lives and costs of caring for wounded soldiers (physically and psychically) afterwards--and just put it on the credit card by LOWERING taxes at the same time for the very wealthy amongst us in particular.
