Laurie Smith and her husband, Dennis, an emergency department physician who works in Hannibal, said they were opposed to the Grain Belt project even before they knew it was going to bisect their 80-acre farm in rural Moberly because they considered the possibility of condemnation and eminent domain, declining property values and violations of property rights as a threat to neighbors who had property along another proposed transmission line and tower route.
