Indeed, I wish it were longer, for I would have liked to read their analyses of some other class “compromises” in Congress (their major subject), including, for example, the Missouri Compromise or the Compromise of 1850 (which William Freehling would rename the “Armistice of 1850,” it is surely not because either achieved any kind of common understanding of the goodness or badness or slavery, but, instead, adopted a true “checkerboard” that made… [read post]
