" Among other heinous contributions, Hale is credited with furthering the legal rule that men cannot rape their wives and the practice of burning women at the stake when they are deemed (by men) to be witches.The citations in the draft opinion are staggering enough but, even after the world criticized Alito for including Hale in that draft, Hale still appeared in the final opinion in much the same manner.
