A post by Eric Goldman alerted me to a case in federal court in California in which Facebook users allege that the usurpation of their names and likeness in "sponsored stories" violates a California statute (law written by a legislature and signed by an executive, as opposed to "common law" or law that evolves through judicial decisions) meant to give people control over commercialization of their personalities.
