While a legal academic would not be qualified to sit at first instance or, possibly, on appeal to the Court of Appeal – unless they were practising as well – there is a case to be made for eminent legal academics to be appointed to the UK Supreme Court where issues of law, rather than fact and evidence, dominate the discussion.
