Olav Stokkmo, chief executive, IFRRO, has cited a study saying that authors and publishers depend heavily on income from secondary uses (such as course packs) for their continued production and publication of textbooks, although that argument does not seem to wash at least for the authors, since a number of them have already asked the publishers to refrain from this battle, giving their permission for course packs.
